Meet Nova Vista Psychology

I’m Dr Ashley Smith, an Educational and Community Psychologist and the founder of Nova Vista Psychology Ltd. My work is grounded in reflective, relational, and system‑level approaches to meaningful and sustainable change. With a background spanning teaching, senior leadership, and applied psychology, I bring over a decade of experience supporting individuals, teams, and organisations to think deeply, work collaboratively, and change safely.

Before founding Nova Vista Psychology in 2025, I spent nine years as a teacher and four years as a senior leader which are experiences that continue to shape my commitment to inclusion, psychological safety, and the emotional realities of professional practice. Since qualifying as an Educational and Community Psychologist in 2021, I’ve worked across education, community, and organisational settings, helping people and systems navigate complexity with clarity and compassion. My practice is grounded in evidence‑informed psychology and shaped by specialist training in psychodynamic and systemic approaches, group dynamics, and relational practice.

My work centres on the philosophy Reflect. Reframe. Renew. I support people to pause, consider dynamics, shift perspective, and move towards renewed understanding and purposeful action. I’m motivated by being useful and by advocating for those who may not feel able to advocate for themselves, by helping people make sense of what’s happening, and by asking thoughtful questions that open up new ways of seeing. Some of my favourite moments are when theory meets practice and someone experiences that “lightbulb” shift that changes their direction, mindset, or confidence.

People often describe me as calm, warm, down‑to‑earth, and relational. I’m known for making psychology accessible, listening closely, and naming difficulty with kindness and integrity. I value honesty, compassion, curiosity, humour, and relatability, and I work alongside people rather than directing them - offering reflective space, structured insight, and a steady presence that helps them explore challenges safely.

My aim is for people to feel safe, unjudged, and confident that they can ask for help. I bring warmth, clarity, and a grounded psychological perspective, offering space to think openly and explore challenges with honesty and compassion. I hold the boundaries needed to keep the work safe, but always in a way that feels respectful, steady, and supportive.

Through Nova Vista Psychology, I’m committed to work that is psychologically insightful, relational, compassionate, and impactful; supporting individuals, teams, and organisations to build the conditions for lasting wellbeing, confident leadership, and meaningful change.
